An Ontology to Support Semantic Management of FMEA Knowledge

2016

<p>Risk mitigation has always been a special concern for organization’s strategic management. Various tools and techniques have been developed to manage risk in an effective way. Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) is one of the tools used for effective assessment of risk. It analyzes all potential failure modes, their causes, and effects on a product or process. Moreover it recommends actions to mitigate failures in order to enhance product reliability. Organizations spend their resources and domain experts make their efforts to complete this analysis. It further helps organizations identify the expected risks and plan strategies in advance to tackle them. But unfortunately the …

CoCoDat: a database system for organizing and selecting quantitative data on single neurons and neuronal microcircuitry.

2004

We present a novel database system for organizing and selecting quantitative experimental data on single neurons and neuronal microcircuitry that has proven useful for reference-keeping, experimental planning and computational modelling. Building on our previous experience with large neuroscientific databases, the system takes into account the diversity and method-dependence of single cell and microcircuitry data and provides tools for entering and retrieving published data without a priori interpretation or summarizing. Data representation is based on the framework suggested by biophysical theory and enables flexible combinations of data on membrane conductances, ionic and synaptic current…

The Model of Possible Web Data Retrieval

2015

In the Dempster-Shafer's theory of evidence, for incorporating uncertainty, the valuation assigns to the data tables the degrees of belief for these data. Firstly, we are looking for the answers to the following questions. Is there a valuation-based system in which combination and marginalization operate on valuations? Has this system prosperities analogical to the t-norm system? In the t-norm system of the valuation for the specific database attributes configuration can be described the algebra of possible data set in which can be interpreted the Information Retrieval Logic.

Multimedia Retrieval by Means of Merge of Results from Textual and Content Based Retrieval Subsystems

2010

The main goal of this paper it is to present our experiments in ImageCLEF 2009 Campaign (photo retrieval task). In 2008 we proved empirically that the Text-based Image Retrieval (TBIR) methods defeats the Content-based Image Retrieval CBIR "quality" of results, so this time we developed several experiments in which the CBIR helps the TBIR. The TBIR System [6] main improvement is the named-entity sub-module. In case of the CBIR system [3] the number of low-level features has been increased from the 68 component used at ImageCLEF 2008 up to 114 components, and only the Mahalanobis distance has been used. We propose an ad-hoc management of the topics delivered, and the generation of XML struct…

A Comparative Study of Land Surface Emissivity Retrieval from NOAA Data

2001

Abstract A comparative study has been carried out on the most recent algorithms for the estimation of land surface emissivity (ϵ) using Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR) data. Three of the algorithms are based on the Temperature-Independent Spectral Indices (TISI) concept using atmospherically corrected channels 3, 4, and/or 5, namely: (1) TISI BL , (2) TS-RAM, and (3) Δ day. The fourth is a simplified method based on the estimation of ϵ using atmospherically corrected data in the visible and near-infrared channels, called Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) Thresholds Method (NDVI THM ). This method integrates a wide spectral data set of bare soil reflectivity meas…

Classification and retrieval on macroinvertebrate image databases

2011

Aquatic ecosystems are continuously threatened by a growing number of human induced changes. Macroinvertebrate biomonitoring is particularly efficient in pinpointing the cause-effect structure between slow and subtle changes and their detrimental consequences in aquatic ecosystems. The greatest obstacle to implementing efficient biomonitoring is currently the cost-intensive human expert taxonomic identification of samples. While there is evidence that automated recognition techniques can match human taxa identification accuracy at greatly reduced costs, so far the development of automated identification techniques for aquatic organisms has been minimal. In this paper, we focus on advancing …

MeCaSDa and ECaSDa: Methane and ethene calculated spectroscopic databases for the virtual atomic and molecular data centre

2013

Abstract Two spectroscopic relational databases, denoted MeCaSDa and ECaSDa, have been implemented for methane and ethene, and included in VAMDC (Virtual Atomic and Molecular Data Centre, http://portal.vamdc.eu/vamdc_portal/home.seam ). These databases collect calculated spectroscopic data from the accurate analyses previously performed for the electronic ground state of methane, ethene, and some of their isotopologues: 12CH4, 13CH4, and 12C2H4. Both infrared absorption and Raman scattering lines are included. The polyad structures are reported and the transitions are precisely described by their energy, their intensity and the full description of the lower and upper states involved in the …

Multimedia Retrieval in a Medical Image Collection: Results Using Modality Classes

2013

The effective communication between user and systems is one main aim in the Multimedia Information Retrieval field. In this paper the modality classification of images is used to expand the user queries within the ImageCLEF Medical Retrieval collection provided by organizers. Our main contribution is to show how and when results can be improved by understanding modality-related challenges. To do so, a detailed analysis of the results of the experiments carried out is presented and the comparison between these results shows that the improvement using modality class query expansion is query-dependent.

SQL Education

2020

Structured Query Language (SQL) skills are crucial in software engineering and computer science. However, teaching SQL effectively requires both pedagogical skill and considerable knowledge of the language. Educators and scholars have proposed numerous considerations for the betterment of SQL education, yet these considerations may be too numerous and scattered among different fora for educators to find and internalize, as no systematic mappings or literature reviews regarding SQL education have been conducted. The two main goals of this mapping study are to provide an overview of educational SQL research topics, research types, and publication fora, and to collect and propagate SQL teachi…

XML-based Knowledge Discovery for Linguistic Atlas of Sicily (ALS) Project

2009

The identification of new useful patterns in data is a core process for intelligent systems. Information overflow is directly related to this problem. In this work we propose a knowledge discovery methodology to retrieve useful and novel information from raw data stored in a DBMS. We used ALSDB, a database that has been built suitably to access structured information obtained from the questionnaires produced in the Linguistic Atlas of Sicily (ALS) project. The ALS project is a decennal joint effort led by researchers at the Dipartimento di Scienze Filologiche e Linguistiche of the University of Palermo that has the purpose to track and study the geo-linguistic and lexicographic processes ab…
